Let ThinkBIG! teaching artists and educators show you techniques and strategies for teaching through the arts. Integrating the arts with core subject areas deepens student understanding and strengthens the retention of information and skills learned. These workshop opportunities helps build a common language and shared knowledge base of the arts, arts processes, child development, pedagogy and education. Professional development programs build from participants' level of expertise and are facilitated by ThinkBIG! teaching artists and community partners in education.
By showing educators how to integrate the arts – drama, music, dance, and visual – with instruction in core subject areas, ThinkBIG! helps educators infuse new life into traditional subjects.
Through Professional Development courses, participants will gain an understanding of arts integration concepts, participate in model lessons, explore assessing student learning in and through the creative process, and acquire resources to develop integrated lessons. Working as a team empowers teachers to share practice and strategy. Our goal is to inspire artistic and intellectual capacities in students, building competence and confidence in both students and teachers.
Professional development for classroom teachers focuses on helping teachers collaborate in the work of visiting artists and/or integrating artistic content into their work with students. All workshops address the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, P21's Framework for 21st Century Learning, as well as the NYS Standards and concepts from the Core Competencies in the Arts.
